This is a magnificently carved walnut 19th century European buffet with a multitude of different subjects captured by the master carver. The carving is very deep accentuating the three dimensional impression experienced when viewing the piece. Among the carvings included is a crest with an eagle at the center of two animated monkey like creature on its sides. At the top, just below the crest, on each side is a phoenix. The top of the buffet has three doors, two of which are adorned by a bird with a face amid branches. The center door, certainly the focus of the piece, includes four people including a page boy, a young woman, a similarly aged young playing music, and an elderly man joining in the celebration. The top portion of the buffet is supported by two jesters resting on a marble top. The bottom of the piece has three cabinet doors which contain a carved woman on the center element and the others having carved flowers all of which are framed by carved columns. Above each door is a drawer with ornate pulls framed by carved lion faces. The buffet is grounded by multiple bun feet. The buffet can be disassembled into three pieces consisting of the cornice, the top and the bottom. This is an impressive piece with excellent carvings and many subjects that will impress all.
